about
Randy and I co-wrote this song together after all of the rest of the songs for Raise Your Flag were written.
At the time I was a little overwhelmed by the plans that I'd laid out in front of myself, and despite the faith that Randy and others had shown in me, I couldn't help feeling like I was reaching for something that I didn't deserve, and would never come to be. I've had maybe more than my share of the ugly stuff in life, and sometimes it's easy to see myself as broken, incomplete, or falling short of who I wish I was. This song is something of a reckoning with that sentiment, and a realization that, if I can, I'll will myself to the kind of life I've always wanted.
lyrics
I ripped the hinges off my front door
I'm eating right off the kitchen floor
My boots are stuck to the mess that I made before
I slammed my head on the wall for days
And heaven knows all the holes I've made,
Trying to figure out how I got this way
This isn't a home, it's only a plan, and I'm just a fix-it list of a broken man
If time only knows just who I am, I'm breaking the hour glass to dig through the sand
So I'll sing a song of a future me
A melody of what I could be
Nothing's holding me back but the doubt in me
This isn't a home, it's only a plan, and I'm just a fix-it list of a broken man
If time only knows just who I am, I'm breaking the hour glass to get to the sand
I think I grew up way too fast
If this sound was to be my last
Would I leave anything more than a laugh?
This isn't a home, it's only a plan, and I'm just a fix-it list of a broken man
If time only knows just who I am, I'm breaking the hour glass to get to the sand
This isn't a home, it's only a plan, and I'm just a fix-it list of a broken man
If time only knows just who I am, I'm breaking the hour glass to get to the sand

"With his soulful, powerful, made-for-radio voice in the driver seat, Sam Lee's music is a sonic melting pot of hook
centered pop, anthemic heartland rock and bluesy soul. A true crossover artist both on record and on stage, he is both intimately engaging and enthrallingly dramatic."...more
